Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner released tentative dates for the special election to replace former U.S. Rep. Aaron Schock (R-IL,18).

The special election primary and general election for the Republican-leaning 18th congressional district have been scheduled for June 8 and July 24, respectively. However, a press release from the governor's offices says those dates will each "be delayed several weeks" in order to comply with the federal Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act.

The release says Rauner will release revised special election dates after the states enters into a consent decree.

Candidates can file nomination papers with the State Board of Elections from April 15 through April 20.

Shock abruptly announced his resignation earlier this month following mounting questions over his spending of campaign funds and taxpayer money. His resignation was effective Tuesday.

The former congressman's spending habits are reportedly under investigation by the FBI and Illinois federal prosecutors.
